AQA Level 2 Technical Award in Performing Arts (Theatre Design & Technology)

This course is for anyone who is interested in how theatre productions are produced. We cover elements of set design, lighting, props, costume, stage management and puppetry.

Transferrable skills that are covered in the course include presentation techniques, budgeting and preparing for a professional business pitch.

 

Course outline

Unit 1: Unlocking Creativity (30% coursework)

Students discover a range of different theatrical production disciplines and then in small groups link these together to form an outline of a production. 

Considering the different design and production elements.

 

Unit 2: The Performance / Production (30% coursework)

Having sampled a range of skills during year 10, students then choose to follow one role in more detail as they work alongside the college production.  Roles include: set design, costume design, stage management, lighting and front of house.

 

Unit 3: The Performing Arts Experience (40% exam)

This unit brings together all of the elements that have been covered in unit 1 and 2 together with an understanding of the performing arts industry as a whole.  Students will also need to write about a live performance that they have seen and a production that they have been involved in.  

 

Where are they now?

Students who have studied technical theatre and design at Beauchamp College are now working professionally as costume designers, lighting technicians, sound technicians and stage managers within the theatre industry.

Students have secured places in highly competitive drama schools including Central School of Speech and Drama, Mountview, Royal Welsh College.
