GCSE Design and Technology

GCSE Design and Technology will prepare students to participate confidently and successfully in an increasingly technological world.

Students will gain awareness and learn from wider influences on Design and Technology including historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic factors. Students will get the opportunity to work creatively when designing and making and apply technical and practical expertise.

The GCSE course features opportunities for CAD CAM and emerging technologies to equip students for industry.

AGCSE Design and Technology enables students to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of materials and techniques.

Students will get the opportunity to work creatively when designing and making and apply technical and practical expertise.


Unit Content
The theory is taught through practical activities to understand core technical principles e.g. new and emerging technologies, Technical principles e.g. selection of materials or components, Designing and making principles e.g. prototype

The Non Exam Assessment takes place from June of year 10 and then throughout year 11, students will undertake a substantial design and make activity from a context set by the exam board which starts by identifying and investigating design possibilities, leading to a 3-dimensional prototype and a portfolio of evidence.


Career Progression
The study of Design and Technology particularly beyond GCSE, allows access into a great range of careers across many industries. These include but not exclusively: Industrial/product designer , Architect , Car designer, Furniture designer, Interior and spatial designer Teacher, Exhibition designer, Clothing/textile technologist, Colour technologist,Automotive engineer.


Extra Curricular
Twilight and lunchtimes available to all students for extra help and support. Make club is open to students at lunchtime for additional and personal projects.
