It doesn’t matter if you haven’t studied economics prior to taking this course.

You might have an interest in the economy or finance, and have an enquiring mind and be interested in learning about the world around you. This course will help you to understand all this and more. Economics is suitable for academically inclined students who are well motivated and enjoy maths. It is a subject which will stretch you ac demically and challenge you intellectually.

Assessment
There are two written exams at the end of year 11. They are each worth 50% of the final grade. Both exams contain rigorous questioning and expect students to write extended responses.


Unit Content
The course consists of two units. The first unit focuses on how markets work, looking at how prices are determined, competitive markets and market failure.

The second unit focuses on how the economy works, looking at government objectives, intervention and the role of money and financial markets.


Other Information
This economics course can help you prepare for further education such as A-Levels and BTEC level 3 courses. You will become skilled in making decisions, being creative, solving problems, understanding finance, dealing with data, communicating and working as part of team. A GCSE Economics course could lead to work in any business or organisation.
