Level 2 Further Mathematics

The AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics places an emphasis on higher order technical proficiency, rigorous argument and problem-solving skills.

We offer Level 2 Further Mathematics qualification to stretch and challenge our most able mathematicians in Key Stage 4. It is aimed at those students who are likely to achieve at least grade 7 at GCSE Mathematics and who may progress to A-level study in Mathematics and possibly Further Mathematics. The course offers a greater depth and breadth of study of topics such as algebra and geometry and introduces new areas of mathematics including calculus and matrices.

Level 2 Further Mathematics will be studied in conjunction with the GCSE qualification with much of the work covered in Year 11. It gives students an introduction to AS level topics that will help them to develop skills in:

  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Calculus
  • Matrices
  • Trigonometry
  • Functions
  • Graphs

AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics is linear. Students take two question papers at the end of the course, one non-calculator and the other calculator. Both question papers must be taken in the same series and each represents 50% of the assessment.
