At Beauchamp College, there has been an active Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme for a number of years across all three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Each level of the Award has four elements that have to be completed typically over three to twelve months depending on the level:
Element | Example |
---|---|
Volunteering | Voluntary work in the local community that could be combined with potential work experience e.g. Teaching, Coaching, Childcare. |
Physical | Regular participation in a sport or fitness activity e.g. Football or Netball Teams/Clubs |
Skills | Learn or improve a skill over a period of time e.g. Cooking or Music. |
Expedition | A two to four day walking journey with camping to develop teamwork. |
Residential | Gold only. Time away from home meeting new people in a different environment. |
Experience tells us that each level of the award provides a young person with new insights into their capabilities and by trying new things it helps confidence to grow plus develop useful skills. The official Duke of Edinburgh’s Award website offers a lot more information (www.dofe.org) and if you want to get involved or wish to learn more about continuing the programme email IAN COWARD, DofE Manager ian.coward@beauchamp.org.uk.
