3G Pitch Opening

KICK OFF : Beauchamp College Officially Opens Oadby 3G Pitch with partners

October 08, 2021

Spirits were sky-high on 7th October at Beauchamp College as students, staff, and members of the community gathered for the official opening of the state-of-the-art 3G Pitch. The sporting school community was also joined by England football legend, Emile Heskey and Oadby and Wigston Mayor, Councillor Lily Kaufman.

The former Leicester City player proudly cut the ribbon in a short evening ceremony, which was also attended by guests from The Football Foundation and Oadby Owls; having been making use of the all-weather pitch in recent months and as partners of the collaborative project.

Although the initial launch was delayed due to the pandemic, staff and students at the school have been making fully-fledged use of the seismic space, co-ordinating PE lessons, after-school clubs and club-based competitions regularly.

Sally Wicken, Associate Principal at Beauchamp College remarked “The opening of the 3G Pitch marks a huge milestone for our school and wider community, which has always been a big champion of sport, and the values and lessons learnt from it”.

Among other prolific community members, Mayor Lily Kaufman also gave a speech to commemorate the opening, and to congratulate the college on its new incentive and pro-active attitude to keeping young people interested in sport.

For now, in terms of modernising school facilities to keep young people motivated – it would seem that Beauchamp College is top of the League.
