NIAM'S SUMMER SPORTING SUCCESS

Golf fans across the globe are eagerly anticipating the start of The Ryder Cup, which gets underway in just three weeks’ time. Closer to home, though, golfing success has arrived a little earlier.

Niam, a Year 8 student here at Beauchamp College, has enjoyed multiple successes at various golfing tournaments around the county over the summer – securing three consecutive major wins.

Firstly, Niam was triumphant at the Leicestershire Flag 50 Black Disc competition, finishing his round with a quite remarkable four shots left!

Niam then went on to cement another victory at the Leicestershire County Champion Flag 50 competition, before completing a stunning hattrick of wins by claiming the Gallops Junior Open crown.

Throughout these competitions, Niam found himself facing a tough collection of challenging opponents, with these tournaments attracting the very best handicap golfers in the county.

Keeping his composure, though, and showcasing his inexhaustible repertoire of skills, Niam was able to walk away as the outstanding champion in all three competitions.

If that wasn’t enough, Niam has also been selected to play badminton for Leicestershire!

Ranking number one for his age category, he will not only be competing against the best players in England, but an extremely talented cohort of players from across Europe too.

Under the watchful eye of father Parag, though - who has recently been appointed Leicestershire County Team Manager - Niam is confident he can once again emerge triumphant.

An abundance of energy, the 12-year-old seemingly hasn’t stopped all summer. In addition to his exploits on the golf green and badminton court, Niam has also been participating in multiple cricket tournaments and has even been invited to take part in County Championship trials for table tennis.

So much for the summer being the time to rest up, relax and take it easy! Niam has his foot pressed hard down on the accelerator, chasing his dream of becoming an elite sporting athlete.

If his level of hard work, dedicated and perseverance this summer is anything to go by, then it’s surely only a matter of time.

Who knows, maybe it will be Niam teeing off in The Ryder Cup in a few years’ time; watch this space!

Well done Niam, we are all incredibly proud of you!
